Outings with Elders
A lot of the times, in our community we live in a generational household. Meaning there may be two to three generations living in one household. And while it is great to go on family vacations or weekend get aways, often times those who are left behind are the elders because they are the less able in the family.

Chicago, IL
Some of the elders expressed that they've never gone to Chicago, and so with the help of each lady, we planned a day trip to Chicago. Our day started out really early. We arrived at the bus station at 5:20am to Milwaulkee. When we arrived in Milwaukee, we transferred to the Amtrak Train and rode that the rest of the way to Union Station in Chicago. We finally arrived at 9:30am. The very first thing we did was the Willis Tower. All but one elder was not fond of the sky box and the ladies even tried jumping on the glass! After that we went to the Navy Pier and had lunch. There were so many selections, we had to walk around the food court 3 times just to decide. Lastly we ended our day with a ride on the ferris wheel before we started we had the head back to Union Station to take the train back to Milwaukee, then the bus back to Appleton. Our day officially ended at 10pm.
Milwaukee Domes
Why did we go to the Mitchell Domes? Two of our elders would talk about how they miss the good ole days back in Laos when they can roam about and the beautiful tropical plants that surrounds their huts. Our day sadly started with one of our elder being unable to come on the trip because she double booked an order of freshly butchered chickens. So only one other elder was able to come on the trip. We headed out to Milwaukee and stopped to shop at 7 Mile Fair to do some shopping, then went to Pho Cali to have lunch. After that we finally went to the Domes. The very first dome we went into view was the Tropical Dome. Right away, the elder on the trip was hit with nolgastic of smells and familiarity. She started pointing out the different types of plants she remembered from the old days and described what the use and cure the plants had. The best part was we actually saw a banana tree with actual bananas growing! The next dome was the Desert. This one was interesting because our elder had never seen the desert or desert plants before. She was in awe of everything. Lastly we viewed the Show Dome. The Show Dome had so many beautiful flowers and plants. There were these bright red flowers that were so beautiful!! As we walked closer to the flowers, we realized they were Thai chili pepper plants!!
